Are you an AR or VR artist? Finnish National Opera & Ballet is looking for you to submit a proposal for to create an immersive art concept for “Memories of the Future” with the musical score created by world-renowned composer Esa-Pekka Salonen and story challenge by award-winning musical artist and dramaturge Paula Vesala.
Your proposed concept should embrace the spirit of performing arts, music, and most importantly opera and ballet. It can be a work in progress. It is recommended to build a team to be able to fulfill the project.
The finalists of the immersive design competition will get a chance to develop their vision with Salonen, Vesala and Finnish National Opera & Ballet mentors, a team of leading industry specialists, and pitch the immersive idea to an international jury in Helsinki, Finland. The winner will have their concept produced and exhibited in collaboration with the Finnish National Opera and Ballet.
The working title is “Memories of the Future”, and who could be more important and interesting as a main character, whose future memories would we rather experience actualized than a young girl’s? What kind of cities did she live in, what kind of birds flew past her window when she woke up in her room? Imagine the most interesting things that happen to the future girl; the patterns of signals that formed the memories. Perhaps she collected and left us a certain memory on purpose to visit in.
No specific platform for this work has yet been determined. It could be an installation in a space in which several people can roam, it could be a wall that reacts to the person experiencing the piece, or it could be experienced with a virtual reality headset, or something completely different.
What kind of a new concept can you think of?
